CGPL to treat waste in villages

Mumbai, India: Coastal Gujarat Power, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Power, is implementing a waste management programme in and around its vicinity in partnership with NGO Sahjeevan. The CSR initiative will strive for maximum waste recovery through sustainable use of biodegradable waste and recovery of waste, and aim at minimum waste disposal on to dump yard and landfills.

The company will study the current waste disposal status and practices, undertake capacity building of panchayats of the identified villages, sanitation committee and their stakeholders, raise awareness and change perceptions, promote collection and segregation of waste, and establish linkages with different stakeholders for better and productive usage of generated waste.

The company has already implemented the programme in the four identified villages, namely Tunda-Vandh, Motakandagara, Nanabhadiya and Tragadi.

CGPL CEO & ED K.K. Sharma said, β€œThe overall impact of the long-term interventions will have strong impact on the lives of the locals and will help them in building a cleaner future.”

The company has over the year worked along with local panchayats and other administrative bodies to ensure a better and cleaner surrounding for the population in its areas of operations. It is doing this through the construction of waste segregation centres.
